Application Eligibility

We are looking for African American aspiring educators who are:
-
Students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate education degree program, and about to enter the final year of that program, OR
-
Recent graduates who are planning to enroll in a graduate education degree program, OR
-
Individuals currently working in education, seeking to become a licensed teacher, including people working with provisional licensure or teaching assistants who wish to become teachers.

All applicants should be currently enrolled in courses leading towards licensure or have been admitted into a Virginia-approved program awarding licensure.
The qualifications for becoming a Teaching Fellow are stringent. Our committee – a group of local educators and AATF board members – are looking for applicants who are academically competent, are willing to work with other fellows and with mentors, are interested in living and teaching in the Charlottesville/ Albemarle area, and are enthusiastic about education. Preference may be given to people seeking endorsement in the areas most critical to the needs of local school systems, but all k-12 areas of endorsement will be considered.
